Artist Bio

Michael began playing drums at the age of fourteen in Montreal where he was asked to join his first band; it was actually the first time he sat behind a drumset. By nineteen, he was playing professionally, studying music at Concordia University and taking private lessons from Ron Page, a student of international drumming authority, Henry Adler. He also studied with legendary teacher, Jim Chapin. He eventually journeyed to Toronto, and then New York City where he joined the theatrical rock act, “Thor." Michael now lives in Vancouver where he has been continually active in the clubs and studios. He is presently producing an album of original music to be released in 2006.

Michael played for Juno award winner Paul Janz for seven years. He was also the house drummer at Vancouver’s famous Roxy Cabaret for thirteen years where he led “The Surreal McCoys," “Joe’s Garage" and “PHAThed." He presently performs with “Bang."

Michael was awarded a gold record for his work with Paul Janz and was nominated by CARAS (Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) in 1988 for West Coast Drummer of the Year. He has also been published as a columnist in Canadian Musician Magazine.

Among Michael’s many contemporary influences are Aynsley Dunbar, Terry Bozzio, Tony Williams, Steve Jordan, Todd Rundgren, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and Brian Wilson.
